Different Types Of Migrane
Do you struggle with frequent, intense headaches? They might
be a symptom of a serious disease – migraine. But if you want
to seek lasting pain relief you will need to understand your
pain.
Here’s a guide to the different types
of migrane headaches.
First of all, a headache may be a symptom of a migraine, but
it also can just be a tension headache. If it is not related to
migraine, it is actually caused by other things and remedies
may include over-the-counter pills or a glass of water. Stress,
allergies, and a bunch of other factors can cause a person to
feel pain in their head, but only in certain cases is there a
true neurological disorder and disease going on.
In this case, special therapies and
treatments are in order. There are several different types of
headaches, but not as many different types of migrane
headaches, as they are symptoms of an actual disease and not
based on a variety of environmental factors.
There are really only two kinds of migraine: migraine with
aura and migraine without aura. The latter is much more common;
only 30% of migraine sufferers have aura. But these different
types of migraine are not all that different. Each kind can
entail severe, throbbing headaches that render an individual
sensitive to light and sound. Nausea may even occur.
For migraine with aura, an aura will precede the actual
headache. People experience auras differently. So even within
the different types of migraine, there are varying levels of
pain and sensations. Often, they will see flashing lights,
jagged lines, and have trouble focusing their eyes and may even
encounter temporary blindness (though that is rare). A person
suffering from migraine with aura will also encounter numbness
and tingling in the face, hands, and lips on one or both sides
of their body. They can also feel weakness in their arms or
legs, but that usually only happens on one side of the body.
Aura also can confuse an individual – he or she may not be able
to comprehend words or speak properly. All of this can last for
an hour.
Migraines, especially migraines with aura, can be
excruciating. But if you keep your doctor informed about your
symptoms, you can be properly diagnosed and receive medications
and/or treatments that make your pain tolerable and possibly
even nonexistent in some cases.
So, hopefully you are now more educated about the different
types of migraines out there.
