Stress Affect Your Overall Health?

Do you feel like you might crumble under the daily pressures of life? Maybe you’re next in line for a job promotion, going through a rough divorce, or just have too much on your plate. Whatever the reason, if you’re an American adult or even adolescent, you’re probably under stress! And you’ve probably wondered can stress affect your overall health? Yes, it can and it does.

First of all, there are more direct and obvious ways that stress can adversely affect your health. If you can’t deal with life’s challenges, you might seek comfort in unhealthy foods. Will stress affect your overall health if you relieve it the wrong way? Most certainly! Find healthy, productive ways to eliminate anxiety. Join a pottery club, keep a diary, start gardening, play a board game with the family – but don’t eat a whole tub of ice cream! A little indulgence is okay every now and then, but there are plenty of harmless ways you can relieve your stress instead.

There is also a less obvious way that stress can affect you and it usually manifests physically. In fact, over 40% of adults suffer from health problems related to stress! Heart disease, depression, accidents, and even cancer can sometimes be attributed to anxiety problems. So the consequences of worrying about life’s troubles are pretty big. It doesn’t just end at feeling tense. You can develop an ulcer or in some extreme cases, entertain suicidal thoughts. It’s no laughing matter.

So can stress affect your overall health? Yes. But can you do something about it? Definitely. There are easy things you can do every day to eliminate stress in your life. Exercise, eat healthy, keep up with a fun hobby, laugh often, and hug your loved ones. All of these tips and more will lead you to a life of minimal stress and  maximum well-being.
