Tension Headaches
Headaches are a pain and sometimes they can even be
unbearable.
But how are you to properly
combat them if you don’t know why they are there in the first
place? If you’re experiencing persistent and dull aches around
the head or neck, you may be experiencing tension
headaches.
The good news is you are not suffering a migraine, which is
a symptom of a graver, neurological disease. The bad news is
tension headaches can sometimes be difficult to treat,
especially if they are chronic.
A tension
headache is set off when a person endures physical or emotional
stress. Eating badly, not getting enough sleep, feeling
anxious, straining your eyes, and even slouching can all lead
to a bad headache.
The best way to deal with tension headaches is to simply
avoid them from the start. Because they are a result of strain
in the muscles, any relaxation of your head and neck can
prevent them and on that same token, cure them. Still, if you
live a busy life, you can find help at your local
drugstore.
Traditional pain medications will make the pain of a tension
headache go away, even if they don’t solve the underlying
problem. If you experience frequent tension headaches or find
that pain relievers simply don’t do the trick, talk to your
doctor as he or she can better asses your situation and treat
you.
It is important to note that in some cases, people can
experience a throbbing tension headache, as opposed to a duller
headache. This has some of the medical community wondering if
some or all tension headaches are associated with migraine
headaches.
